Alex Terrier – “Bohemia After Dark”
Recorded live at Zoot Studios, Paris | Engineer: Neil Saidi
During a summer tour in France with vocalist Marianne Solivan, saxophonist Alex Terrier found himself with two free days in Paris — and an inspired idea. He called pianist Brandon McCune, bassist Steve Wood, and drummer Jay Sawyer, the musicians who had been sharing the stage with him night after night. The result: a spontaneous recording session that became On Second Thoughts.
There was no rehearsal, no prearranged setlist — just four musicians walking into Zoot Studios in Paris, setting up together in the same room, and letting the music unfold. Over the course of four hours, they recorded six complete takes — no edits, no splices — capturing the organic energy and conversation of a live band in full swing.
“We went into the studio with nothing prepared,” says Terrier. “We made up the arrangements on the spot. Everything you hear was played live — complete takes, no studio tricks. We were just listening and reacting.”
The session swings hard, anchored in the jazz tradition but sparked by modern curiosity.
This track is not a studio artifact — it’s a moment captured. The record embodies what jazz is at its core: trust, spontaneity, and presence.
“This session reminds me why I fell in love with jazz,” Terrier reflects. “It’s about trust — trusting the musicians, the moment, and the music itself.”
